Work & All That

So. Haven't written in a while. I am currently in a securely scheduled part of my life. No more crazy running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. No way! I haven't even had time to blog. Here's the readers digest version: I had a job at NY and CO. I needed more hours. I applies for a second job at Charlotte Russe. I got it with ease. My hours were twice as crazy and super hard to manage. I got a call from my Aunt saying that the salon she worked at needed a receptionist. Pay is the same as NY and CO. and the hours are set for three times a week same schedule, so I take that one and quit NY. I am now working two jobs, and neither of them is New York and Company. I think I actually lost money working there because the clothes are so irresistable. I don't know... but I am super excited for January to come because I am going to get a new phone and pay for it myself. I am going to be that much more responsible!! So excited. I am also excited for the events leading up to that month. For instance: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Twilight the Movie, New Year's Eve, and MY BIRTHDAY!!! I am quite excited for my big day this year because not only will I not be a teenager anymore, I will not have to do finals or dorm room white glove this year! Hooray! Really, that was not the funnest. Anyways, that is all I can think of right now, so on to the joke of the day!

Yesterday's (Or more like yestermonth's) Joke was
The door bell rings, and a man answers it. Here stands this plain but well dressed kid, saying, "Trick or Treat!"The man asks the kids what he's dressed up like for Halloween. The kid says, "I'm an IRS agent." Then he takes 28% of the man's candy, leaves, and doesn't say Thank You. I know it's not halloween anymore but it was when I last blogged. BTW I was a hot pirate on halloween. It was awesome! I'll post pics asap.

I'm at work so I can't upload my fashion for today, but just off the top of my head, Check out Betsey Johnson's website. She is ALWAYS awesome!!

My Latop How I Miss You...(AKA the rambling Blog)

So I am on my laptop right now. It is so sad and broken. The screen is spider cracked all the way across the screen. I am using an external monitor, but I miss having my very own laptop all my own. Boo Hoo. Work was good today. I got paid. I am still broke though after I pay all I need to pay. Is this how life really is? Remind me again why I wanted to be a grown up so bad when I was twelve? Really though, I like being an adult. I have more responsibility, yes, but I get a lot more out of life this way. I just want to be paid more. I do have several projects lined up that I will get paid for soon, so that is a good thing on the side. I like work a lot too, so I guess I should shut up and count my blessings, eh? I have a lot. I just want my laptop back is why I am in a mood. I miss personalizing my stuff ya know? Well I am sick of writing for today so here's the joke of Yesterday: (two days? whatev):

The door bell rings, and a man answers it. Here stands this plain but well dressed kid, saying, "Trick or Treat!"The man asks the kids what he's dressed up like for Halloween. The kid says, "I'm an IRS agent." Then he takes 28% of the man's candy, leaves, and doesn't say Thank You.

The fashion is from Elie Saab Fall Couture. I love ruffles and this is no exception. I am not going into detail today because I am tired and grouchy. Just enjoy the picture. And the Video:

Slackerama...

So call me a slacker because I haven't written in days. It is the 15th already though, and I wrote last on the ninth, so not too bad, right? Anyway, here is what happened. On Friday the tenth I went to work, ate McDonald's ice cream, and watched the stupidest movie ever about a boy band called 2ge+her. It was funny in parts though. On Saturday after work I went to see Eagle Eye finally and I totally loved it! I am such an action buff. Which is funny because I hate hand to hand combat scenes in all movies, and action ones seem to be full of those. But this one wasn't and I was so very happy with how that turned out. But before the movie, me and Lindsey dressed up in crazy hot clothes, did our hair and makeup, and took pictures. We looked amazing if I do say so myself. Sunday was Stake conference and I got up early. Monday I twisted my knee and then worked for 8 hours on it (It's better now though) and then had rice krispie treats for dessert. Tuesday was another one of those very unproductive days, but I helped Gramps with his computer and I also gave Paul a ride to his orchestra concert. All in all I had an awesome weekend. I wish I had more hours at work, but those will come when I prove myself. I am already doing really well and leaning fast. Maybe my employers will notice and actually give me the 25-30 hours a week the promised when I was hired. And today I woke up and turned on the computer. Revelatory. Anyways, here are some of the pics me and Lindsey took. Mind you we also went to the movies dressed like this. It was so hot.

Yesterday's most fabulous joke of the day was:

What did the Skeleton say to the Vampire?

You Suck!

And today's fashion is....Valentino! Not only am I recommending a favorite among...well...everyone, but I am also bringing a little couture to my blog! Today is only the second couture piece I've done since day 1! I love Valentino. If you looked up elegance, class, and chic in the dictionary, it should have the word "Valentino" listed there. This fall's 2008 couture show was amazing, not because of the original pieces, but for the mixture of texture. in the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgtKwHvr3xY) watch how the slow movement causes textures to meld. Flashy and smooth come together here, as well as shape, molded to perfection. Just look, it's unbelievable!:

Productivity!!!!

I promised to do something productive today so I called my friend Sherri and finally measured the window seat cushion I have been putting off sewing for her since the weekend. I am going to sew it tonight, and it would have been done already but I sewed some curtains for her instead. I am proud of myself for that. Also, I watched Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and I have to say I am impressed with the amount of deeper meaning I found in it. I love the little sayings that are sprinkled throughout it. If you haven't seen it, go, because it's amazing! I also discovered that Volchock from one of my all-time favorite shows: the OC is the same actor as James from the movie version of one of my all-time favorite books: Twilight. It is only the coolest thing ever! I am so excited!!! Thanksgiving is coming up and when it does, I will be so ready for Twilight, food, and relatives. It will be a blast!
.
OK the joke of yesterday:
Why did the Vampire subscribe to the wall street journal?
He heard it had great circulation.
.
And my fashion of the day is: Anna Sui's entire spring 2009 RTW line. I am sorry. I can't choose just one. It is impossible. Every look is different, but somehow the entire collection is cohesive. From looks that are perfect for the office to looks that are beach worthy, they all portray a different scene with the underlying values of shape and detail remaining close enough to form a cohesive collection. I will pick three favorites that illustrate my point well, and you will see. I also am begging you to watch the video. You will not be sorry!

These three rock!

Me Me and more Me

OK I admit it. This blog is set up purely to talk about me. That is all I ever do in here. I figure I may talk less about myself in public, and just look confident, not spoiled and pigheaded if I get all my bragging out here. Good, now that that's cleared up... My friend Lindsey came in to visit me on her break today. I am pretty stoked when people come to see me, even if it is only a hello-goodbye like today. I had to run over to the Galleria Mall to train on the new registers that are being installed tomorrow, but going there was kind of a waste of time and gas. I drove all the way down there to have my boss show me how to hit a few buttons, then I went back. An hour of driving for twenty minutes! But the rest of the day was fine. I really love talking to people and recommending stuff, because HELLO! Fashion is my life. I met this really cool lady from France who didn't speak hardly any English-It was so rad! I wish I knew another language. It would be an awesome thing. I should take some classes. It can't be that hard if you take it slow-a little at a time. I don't have work tomorrow. I am going to sleep in, and I hope the day is productive. Sometimes I lay around doing nothing all day long, and then I feel like a lazy toad when I look at the clock and it's already late afternoon. Oh well. I will force myself to work! Do at least one productive thing every day. I always feel better that way.

OK. Yesterday's joke of the day was:
Why do mummies have trouble keeping friends?
They're so wrapped up in themselves.

And my fashion for today is: More spring/summer 2009 stuff, this time from my newest favorite designer (I have a lot of favorites) John Galliano. His shows are amazing, inspired, and truly unique. Every detail is thought about, and taken just far enough that the outcome is a spectacular show of magnificent proportions. Every show he does is fun, different, and styled to perfection. This latest one is all about the British past. Don't be distracted by the amazingly huge hats on top of those dressed-up heads. Take a look at the fashion underneath them, and you will see the work of a master. This whole show is so amazing, it was super difficult to find a favorite look, but I think this simple yet well-made dress works. The sections of the dress are perfectly proportioned, and the ruffles are in all the right places-and I gotta admit: I love a flowing skirt like no other. Not to mention the hat is totally gorgeous. I might just wear one like it out on the town. It is after all a ready-to-wear show....

"Look Hot At Work Day"

Today I worked for 5 hours in a shirt that ties around the neck, and a high waisted pencil skirt with a really cool 80s vibe print. I had heels on for half the time, and ankle strap flats the rest. Needless to say, 5 minutes after I got home I threw on knit true religions and a tee shirt. But if going through a tiny bit of discomfort means I get to look really good all day, I'll take it! It was a good day today, too because my aunt Kris came in to shop and say hello. I love it when I get visits. It is a huge motivator to do great at what I am doing. I just love it! So I am home now, and tired. I ate ice cream right before bed again last night, and same as always, I got a stomachache this morning, so I won't be doing that again any time soon! I almost wore glasses today, but I get a headache from lack of peripheral vision, and a neck ache from swinging my head around so much. Oh well, I look good without them too. I really like mine though.

On to another subject, yesterday's Joke of the Day was:
Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers?
No they eat the fingers separately.

And my fashion for the day is a Lanvin ready to wear from Spring/Summer 2009. I liked this collection a lot, but maybe love is too strong a word. I loved this piece though. The whole show was focused on billowing, and gathering, and general poofy-ness, centered around block shapes with simple colors. The details on some were cool in that they were shiny and some had glitter, but I didn't jump out of my seat over any except this black dress. I loved the neckline, and the silhouette is spectacular. I love the belted waist, and in this case especially, it is gathered in all the right places. Home run!

Boring much?

Today I had eggs for lunch. My mom went to the grocery store, and I slept in really late and have been lounging around all day. I am going to finish a window seat cushion for my friend's new house later today, and that is all the interesting news that I carry today. All in all I wish I had more interesting stuff to say. But seeing as I didn't do anything to encourage myself to be productive today, I shall just have to take the words of Scarlett O'Hara to heart, at least for today- "I'll think about it tomorrow." Or there is always the more positive approach of Annie: "Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you, tomorrow!" Anyways, sorry to bore my audience (does anyone even read this, or am I talking to myself again?) so I will just get to the exciting parts of this blog.

Yesterday's Joke of the day was:
What do you get when you cross a vampire and a snowman?
Frostbite!
Cheesy, corny, and very Halloweenish! Gotta Love it!!

And (drumroll please) my fashion of the day is: A look from the queen of prints herself: Diane Von Furstenburg. She is the master of all different kinds of prints, and this look is no different. Her Spring/Summer 2009 show was just bursting with colors, prints, vivid shapes, and wild hippie flower hair ornaments. The rocked out theme carried this collection into the future, and my favorite look combined two prints that I believe no other designer could have put together and made it look as good as this. Who could've done a better job? Nobody. And if you don't believe me, check out the second picture. Just as good let me tell you!
P.S. In the videos bar you'll find a video of the whole show if you want to see it. It will be up until I post tomorrow! otherwise, check this out:

Gramma's Birthday

So today we celebrated my gramma's 66th birthday. And watched more conference. I got to hang out with a bunch of family including my cousin Amanda whom I haven't seen in a while. I was very happy to get to hang out with everyone because living in Utah we didn't get that very much. Let me tell you-three years is a really long time. And yet it kind of feels like we never left. I love it here in Vegas. I am also excited for my day tomorrow because I might watch "Eagle Eye" starring Shia Lebouff (?spellcheck?). It's too bad he is in jail or something, because after this movie I am pretty sure his up-and-coming-ness is only getting bigger. Maybe he will pull a Paris Hilton out and get out so he can make more movies. Hmm... He still has all the charm he had on "Even Stevens" (love that show). Anyways, I am looking forward to this week, it should be good because I have more work than last week, a first paycheck coming, and the worst day (Mondays-HATE those) I get to sleep in! I am pretty excited.

Because it is already October 5th, it is the month for corny and lame Halloween jokes! I am going to have a new one for every day, and because I adore Halloween so very much, I will keep at it for 26 more days! I love Halloween! Any ideas as to something amazing and original that I should be on the big day are always welcome!!
So. My joke for yesterday was:
Three blondes were walking through the forest when they came upon a set of tracks.
The first blonde said, "Those are deer tracks."
The second blonde said, "No, those are elk tracks."
The third blonde said, "You're both wrong, those are moose tracks."
The blondes were still arguing when the train hit them.

And my fashion favorite today is actually three different looks from Alexander McQueen's 2009 ready-to-wear Spring/Summer collection. I love dear old Alex because his designs are so unique and out of the ordinary. He is innovative and inventive and always has a surprise. The models' hair is so creative and sculptural, which compliments the amazing avant-guarde-like silhouettes of these outfits. the colors are fantastic, and the tone is beautiful. From tight corsets to billowy layers, this collection hit the nail right on the head.
Until tomorrow,
Amber

Fashion Day #1!!!

Yes I am back. This time I am taking a break from the two hours of conference I just watched. I am going to watch some more later today, but until then I think I am going to be lazy. I didn't have to work today, I was on call which I hate because you don't know if you are actually working until you call in an hour before. So I called in to see, and I am off today. This is good, because I can do stuff, but bad because hours=money, and I am trying to save. Oh well, I work 18 hours next week, and that's just training (I am still new). Hopefully I get some more soon!

On another note, I thought I might start something on this blog, seeing as it's called diary of a fashion designer and everything. So I am going to post a picture of an outfit I like that recently came out, why I like it, and who made it. That way all you blog readers out there will get a chance to enjoy my exquisite taste in modern fashion. Also, I will post a new joke every day on the joke of the day, and yesterday's joke here, in my posts. So yesterday's joke was: How many lightbulbs does it take to screw in a dyslexic?

My daily fashion inspiration today is the opening gown for Dior's haute couture fall/winter show for 2008/9. I love it because it has a lot of elements of old-school fashion, yet it is new and modern. It has a great waistline (necessary in this look because of all the billowing of the rest of it). I love the sleeves, and the silhouette itself is gorgeous with the perfectly proportioned skirt. I have also always been a fan of black and white. This is a genius look.

First Post!!!

So I've never really thought of myself as the blogging type, but I suppose that if I don't tell everybody about this, no one has to know, right? And if I dare to tell everyone I know about this, they will just have to get to know me better, right? Right. Well. My first blog post ever is now complete. Welcome, self, to the land of free Internet record-keeping goodness. Does this count as a journal? Hmm.....
